Tracking Stats for Dummies| Why You Need to Track! Forensic Supervisor Edition

As a forensic supervisor, you play a critical role in ensuring that your team’s evidence collected is accurate, reliable, and admissible in court. Tracking all your stats is one way to improve your unit’s performance.

This blog post breaks down the primary reasons you should track your stats and how it can help your team.

Proving Situations without Emotion

One of the main benefits of tracking your stats is that it allows you to assess your unit’s performance and identify areas for improvement. By monitoring your stats, you can identify patterns and trends in your work, which can help you spot areas where you may need additional training or support.

When giving performance reviews it takes the emotion out of it. It says, look, no matter our personal feelings about each other, here’s the data that shows we need to improve.

Process Problems!

Tracking your stats can also help you to identify potential problems with the unit’s process. Hello, SOPs, we meet again! No more assumptions about why things always go wrong or specific tasks never get done.

By monitoring your stats, you can identify patterns that may indicate issues with the evidence-collection process or the accuracy of the analysis. This can help you take corrective action to ensure the evidence you collect is of the highest quality.

Improving Communication Across Platforms

Alright, another benefit of tracking your stats is that it can help you improve communication with other members of the criminal justice system.

You can provide detailed reports to judges and attorneys by monitoring your stats. Which, can help everyone understand the forensic evidence being presented.

Use it in Court

Tracking your stats can help you defend your work in court. By having detailed statistics on your performance, you can provide evidence to support the admissibility of your evidence in court. This helps ensure that your collected evidence is used to achieve justice fairly and transparently.

You can also back up your team with process stats or logs. If your team’s competency or procedures or ever questioned. You’ve got the stats to prove you’re on it as their leader.

Announcing the Tracking Stats to Reach Goals Webinar

This webinar is being brought to you via an exciting new collaboration between Gap Science and SuiteLIMS! Seriously, please Keep your eyes peeled for more of our collaborations in the near future!

Finding you have to provide justification for anything ‘extra’ that you want or need? This includes applying for grants, additional personnel, more overtime funding or even expensive new equipment. Statistics are the most efficient way to provide that proof to command staff or other stakeholders. Statistics can also help you make operational decisions that will help your bureau run more efficiently and effectively.

This webinar will cover what types of things stats are useful for, what types of stats to keep, and the best ways to keep stats (Excel, Databases, LIMS).  Students will also learn how to best use their stats to justify the needs of their unit.

How does it work? It’s free to join, but we have opted to make it a private space where our admin must approve all members so we can do our best to keep out the robots and spam.

Most of the spaces within the community are free to access, including forums where you can swap files, post job openings, advertise your forensic merch, announce upcoming training, and even share your wins! In the future, you may also see private spaces designated for students in our paid courses.
