Key Elements to Wrap Up Every Forensic Training

Competency tests and mock trials, which often form the core of forensic training sessions, should be concluded properly so that the participants can understand the content of the training and can apply the acquired competencies in practice.

Here are a few key things to remember to ensure the training ends successfully.

1. Competency Testing and Review

After performing a competency scene, it is necessary to pay close attention to the evidence, reports, and notes. This ensures that everything is well done and points out areas of weakness, such as poor spelling or procedural errors.

2. Question Development

Considering the analyzed reports and evidence, it is possible to indicate the questions that the state and defense attorneys could ask. Furthermore, this assists in orienting the participants to real-life court settings where they need to stand for their work under pressure.

3. Creating Exhibits

Collect documents that may be used in a trial or prepare a mock trial presentation. These exhibits should be as close to real-life conditions as possible and help improve the participant’s practical abilities and preparedness.

4. Mock Trials

This involves using dummies to act as litigants and lawyers to have a feel of the real court. In these trials, people offer proof, answer questions from the attorney, and manage articles or objects. Such practical experience is extremely useful in gaining confidence and skill in forensic activities.

5. Reflective Feedback

Facilitate the participants in considering their performance in the competency tests and the mock trials. Explain what they did well, what difficulties they experienced, and how they can improve. This reflection affirms what has been learned and points to the areas for improvement.

Concluding the forensic training sessions with competency testing, questions, exhibit preparation, and mock trials helps the participants understand the subject and practical experience.

Thus, trainers can utilize the elements mentioned above to design an effective and stimulating learning environment for forensic professionals and equip them for the tasks they will face in their practice.

PSSTTT… It’s Social Media Free!

What makes the Gap Science Family online community truly special is that we understand the stigma social media platforms create throughout your forensic career. Many prefer to stay off platforms like Facebook or Instagram altogether, which is why we’ve created a dedicated space where you can feel safe to interact and network with like-minded individuals without the hassle of social media.

How does it work? It’s free to join, but we have opted to make it a private space where our admin must approve all members so we can do our best to keep out the robots and spam.

Most of the spaces within the community are free to access, including forums where you can swap files, post job openings, advertise your forensic merch, announce upcoming training, and even share your wins! In the future, you may also see private spaces designated for students in our paid courses.
