This 24-hour course, a special collaboration between Gap Science and J13 Forensics, is designed to give forensic professionals and students hands-on experience detecting, enhancing, and investigating bloody evidence using the latest tools and techniques to build confidence for real-world cases.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Are you ready to take your blood evidence detection and enhancement skills to the next level? Whether you’re a crime scene investigator, lab analyst, detective, law enforcement officer, or student, this 3-day hands-on workshop will give you the confidence and skills you need to detect, process, and investigate bloody evidence like a pro.
In this unique course, you’ll:
- Understand blood as forensic evidence — dive into the fundamentals of blood physiology and its significance in investigations.
- Master detection techniques — get hands-on practice with the cutting-edge Foster+Freeman Crime-lite AUTO to search for and document bloodstains on various surfaces. You’ll also learn how to conduct presumptive and confirmatory testing on bloodstains by working with:
- Luminol
- Bluestar
- Phenolphthalein
- OBTI test kits
- Learn bloodstain enhancement methods — practice enhancing latent prints including how to select and apply the right fixatives and how to visualize developed latent prints with the Crime-lite AUTO using:
- Amido Black
- Leucocrystal Violet
- Acid Yellow 7
- Acid Violet 17
- Hungarian Red
- Coomassie Blue
- Refine your investigative approach — learn the proper sequence for processing bloody evidence to maximize investigative opportunities, ensuring you leave no stone unturned in your real-world cases.

Students must attend this course to receive a certificate. At any point if you need to leave for any reason, please let the instructors know as soon as possible and we will try to make accommodations to make up the portions of the course that you missed.
Individuals that have enrolled in a course but wish to cancel, need to do so 15 days before the beginning of the course. No shows for the course will not have their tuition refunded. Substitutions are welcome at any time prior to the beginning of the course. Cancellations made less than 15 days prior to the beginning of the course will be subject to a $150 cancellation fee. This fee may be waived in cases of legitimate emergencies.
