You could be the most charismatic, knowledgeable, or capable supervisor in the universe, but all that means nothing if you are incapable of managing your time. Let’s get on top of it!
Our plan is simple. It’s three parts, foolproof, and will help you get a better handle on your time management so you have time to actually start becoming a better forensic supervisor.
Planning
Planning! Now that doesn’t mean going into the deep dark hole of planning despair. That means getting a mental plan together that will help you stay on top of your time while also meeting the social aspect of your job.
Lay out your SOPs (if you need help with that check out our e-course #shamelessplug) monthly, weekly, and daily with the knowledge that these are flexible and can be quickly adapted to make room for unexpected tasks. Now that you have your tasks, lay out the who what when- Who is doing that task, what is involved with that task (resources, time, other units), when does that task take place.
Execution
Move on to execution! You have some guidelines/general plans for everyone, now, it’s time to stop over-analyzing and put it in action. Make sure you explain to your team expectations.
This can include time to completion, your involved time, what you expect the results to look like, and how frequently you want this task list done. Your job as the supervisor is to help your team but not do tasks for them so work on your own list while they work on managing theirs’.
Analyze
After about a month, it’s time to really analyze where your gaps are.
How did you do? Did you stick to your time management plan? How was the overall productivity level this month? Any issues? Did you fall flat? How about your team? Did they get the help they needed?
Close the gaps by coming up with a new plan and starting the cycle over again. You got this!

PSSTTT… It’s Social Media Free!
What makes the Gap Science Family online community truly special is that we understand the stigma social media platforms create throughout your forensic career. Many prefer to stay off platforms like Facebook or Instagram altogether, which is why we’ve created a dedicated space where you can feel safe to interact and network with like-minded individuals, without the hassle of social media.
How does it work? It’s free to join, but we have opted to make it a private space where all members must be approved by our admin so we can do our best to keep out the robots and spam.
Most of the spaces within the community are free to access, including forums where you can swap files, post job openings, advertise your forensic merch, announce upcoming training, and even share your wins! In the future, you may also see private spaces designated for students in our paid courses.
